REFLECTING ON WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED

•The reparative continuum includes misses, ruptures, and breaches. As you move across the continuum, your sense of danger increases, and you become more disconnected in a relationship. Does working along a continuum provide more clarity as to when you can resolve a situation on your own or when you need to ask for help from other professionals on your staff or in your community?

•Though we tend to measure our students’ accomplishments and growth at particular points in time, it’s the micromoments of repeated safety, predictability, and connection that change the nervous system over time. Have you noticed micromoments of growth and positive change in yourself or your students? If so, when? Share an example.

•Academic resilience, though often thought of as something people either have or don’t have, can be strengthened through nervous system retuning. Thinking of resilience in terms of expanding nervous system flexibility is a polyvagal approach. Does this align with what you know about building resilience?

•Noticing triggers is a way to bring awareness of those little moments that cause dysregulation for the nervous system. Glimmers are moments of ventral energy that help us find regulation. Do you have your own terms for triggers and glimmers? If so, what are those terms, and do you prefer one term over another?
